I am trying to remember why bell traps are prohibited by the International Plumbing Code, but cannot find any information about them.

Please let me know what is out there about them.

The IPC prohibits bell traps becahse in the way they are designed, they tend to clog with debirs and their trap seal has a larger exposed surface area which accelerates evaporation. This is the way it is explained in the 1997 IPC commentary.
