Bending a steel rod 1

Hi All,

I'm trying to produce a piece of 12mm Dia. steel rod of a length 180mm that has a 90 deg. bend at each end with a length of 50mm. I can produce the rod by extruding a cirle 90mm each way but am stuck on how to bend it.

I would use Sweep, but if you really want to bend why not use Bend Part command? F1
What version of Inventor?
Can you attach your file here?

Hi rollupswx,

My version of Inventor is 2011.

Slept on it and worked it out. I was trying to use the Sweep command but couldn't get the "Path" right. What also confused me was the need to have 2 sketches visible. I had the start and finish circle sketches visible and was trying to get it to sweep between the two and was getting error messages that I couldn't resolve.

I've attached my file which works just fine for me, mind you I think I'm not quite got the whole thing right. As you will see I've extruded the shape in two directions and added extra sketches to get that to work, which I don't think is right, so I will re-visit the problem again.

You might read this document first (they aren't likely to know how to really use Inventor either from my experience)

Hey that's a much better way for sure, makes my effort look as rather clumsy. I'll certainly look at the site you suggest and try to get a more balanced approach to Inventor ratther than my current haphazard way that I'm doing things.
