Bending-Only Shell Elements in Abaqus/Explicit

Hi,

I've encountered an odd issue while using bending-only shell elements in explicit. Due to the requirements of a project, I have to use bending-only shells, however, they appear to provide reasonable results only if they are used in an implicit analysis. As shown below, using them in explicit analyses results in odd/excessive displacements.

I've attached a figure showing the comparison of the results and also the *.inp file for the explicit run.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

I was advised that this was a bug in the software which was resolved in Abaqus 2023 FD02. Updating the software will resolve it.

That’s why it’s always good to use the newest available release of Abaqus or, if the release can’t be further updated, install the newest fix pack. They fix many issues and add new features.
