Is there a reference or some direction you can give regarding whether or not to use seam welded SS pipe versus seamless SS pipe in creating heat exchanger tube bundles?

I assume that heat treating for stress relief must be an issue. Any others?

Welded SS tube (ASTM A249/A268/A789) is bent into u-tubes all of the time. In fact there are specifications for it, A688 and A803. Many older specifications require the re-annealing of the bends. In most services this is unneeded and can be detrimental. Leave the bends as-is.

If the tubing has been properly annealed bending will be not problem. For tight bends we try to make sure that the welds are on the neutral axis, when we can find them.
