I'm a little out of my area here, but, I'm the "hey you engineer" guy so I've been tasked to analyze the loads on a vertical flag pole. What I've done is taken the power from a stream of air ( P = .5 x rho x A x V^3) and then used the average wind speed x 10 to get the force. I'm assuming this is the force that hits the pole at the top. What I'm concerned about is the bending moment at the base (assume it's attached with concrete anchors). To get the moment, I made a distributed load with the calculated value for force above at the top of the pole, and the base as zero, so I had a triangular shape. Then used A= 1/2BH to get the total force, located the application point at 2/3H and used that for the moment. Does this sound correct? Thanks in advance.
