Bends in Square Tubing

Currently we have a production project that requires bending 3/4" square tubing. Each assembly requires 24 pieces of tubing. Both ends of each tube are bent on a 2-1/2" radius in a die set on an arbor press, the excess is manually trimmed on a band saw, then each end is welded in place. This process is slow, and the accuracy is not what we wish it to be. If some sort of preformed bend was available that could be welded to a straight tube, our production efficiency would increase and the accuracy and appearance of the finished part would be greatly enhanced. We have noticed several sources offering varying styles of joints for round tubing but have yet to find anything for square tubing. We would greatly appreciate any information anyone would wish to share about whether preformed joints for square tubing are available, or any other comments or suggestions anyone would wish to offer. Thanks, K.

My first thought was to cast the corner. If you are using these in volume it should be cheaper than the process you have now.

Maybe a two part stamping?

You may be able to make the corner part a "press in" so as to do away with the welding.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Thanks Barry, for taking the time to consider our question. We've already designed the steel casting. However our volume is not sufficient to support the various start up costs associated with castings. That's why we are hoping to find something already on the market. Appreciate your thoughts on this matter, K.

Thanks for the grammer lesson Mandrake. I've Googled myself silly over this project but never considered the term "elbow". That's the type of stuff we are looking for. It's amazing what can be accomplished when someone drags you out of your rut. Appreciate your help, K.

Try rotation swaging machine. If you more questions send e-mail. Regards Libor Pírko

Thank You for your response. A rotation swaging machine is something we know nothing about. We would enjoy any information you would care to share with us about this type of machine and how it can be used to bend square tubing.
Regards, Kresten Jensen.

Dear Mr. Jensen,
where are you from USA or Europe. This is important for starting. Pírko

Dear Mr. Jensen, first bent round tube on bending machine, afterr you can use rotation swaging machine for end both.
