Benefit of etching titanium formed parts

I have a question pertaining to etching cold formed titanium repair parts that are attached to aluminum structure. What is the significant benefit of nital (might be misspelled) etch titanium parts prior to priming. Typically when using titanium sheet the only special finish sequence I use for titanium is zinc chromate primer. The repaired area will be inspected at every ‘D’ check (~eight years).

Are you sure that this is a procedure for prep to prime? Nital is Nitric acid diluted with Alcohol and is a standard etchant used for metallographic analysis of many metals and alloys. It provides for visual delineation of microstructure during microscopic inspection. However, this does necessarily preclude the use of Nital for primer prep. Jesus is The TRUTH

Actually I ment to say nitric fluoride etch not nital etch as I originally stated. Ref BAC5753 8.2.2.1 Method IIA step d.
