My firm just started using Bentley Structural (a BIM software) which is used inside of Microstation and we had Solidworks for a single project a couple months back.

When I import a 3d structural model from Bentley Structural into Solidworks it does not recognize the structural shapes. Every face of the steel is an element, not a whole.

I imported it as a part. Is this correct? Also, we are saving the drawings as .dwg not .dgn and I am importing the .dwg into Solidworks as a part. Am I supposed to export it from Bentley as something different and import it that way into Solidworks?

Thanks!

Try the Solidworks forum. At a guess, I would say that saving as a .dwg breaks the intelligence link from Bentley Structural. It certainly does with Geopak and InRoads (civil vertical products).

You could possibly be able to export as LandXML, AECxml or COBIE.
