What is the best 3D scanner for using on cars? I need one that doesn't have problems with metallic paint, glass or rubber trim.

What do yall think about the coatings like mangaflux and dynflux that some people spray on cars for scanning? Do they damage the paint? How hard are they to remove? Is there any damage tot he paint? One of them has acetone as an ingredient :(

I am not sure what the scanning is for but have you considered laser scanners like CYRAX, CAllidus, Riegl etc.
These will yield a "cloud" of points in 3-D with approriate conversion to CAD one can then use this data for spatial analysis.

Have had the best luck with the ATOS scanner (manufactured by GOM in Germany--very slick!), and sold by Capture3d. There is a new version of the scanner called the ATOS II.
