Best Alloy for SS mixer blades?

Hi:
Looking for the best combo of hardness and corrosion resistance in stainless steel.
We like 17-4PH for hardness and fab reasons,
We like AL6XN for corrosion, but it's too soft.

We'd also like to avoid elaborate heat treat or welding procedures.

Have you had wear failures in AL-6XN, or are you guessing? This alloy is much more wear resistant than it hardness would lead you to believe.

There is a tremendous difference in corrosion resistance between those alloys. If you need something close to AL-6XN then you should look into a super-duplex alloy (2507, Zeron 100, Feralium 255). These will be stronger than AL-6XN and have similar corrosion resistance.

The only two corrosion resistant materials offered by the majors (as best as I can recall) are 316 and the high priced C276.

(C276 is also known as Hastelloy C)

 
For more corrosion resistance you could use 13-8Mo PH stainless steel. Super duplex is more wear resistant than AL6XN with about the same corrosion resistance and can be easily fabricated.
 
With respect to superduplex the following information on ZERON 100 in erosion corrosion may be helpful. Typically the superduplex grades around 22 Rockwell C so they do offer higher hardness levels than austenitic counterparts such as AL-6XN (88 Rockwell B) which offer similar corrosion resistance.
