I am researching difference reward and recognition practises for manufacturing based improvement teams,
typically shop floor kaizen teams.....
Does anyone have any examples of what their companies does and the results from it, I am looking for particularly innovative ideas aswell as the usual, such as PRP links, Charity payouts, Team meals/shirts/pens/certificates....
I look forward to your responses
Thanks, Joy [sig][/sig]

Greetings Joy,

A tip from one who's had much "on the floor" experience in several facilities. These being, conventional work station, rotation, "team concept", and union shop employment. Many things can influence how employees react to reward/recognition incentives. I personally have received recognition for safety, cost reduction, and innovations to production processes. By far the most rewarding has been the knowledge that the employer RESPECTS my ideas whether dead-on-right or not. So many employees become apathetic when they feel that they are not being appreciated for the efforts/loyalty that they are willing to give. (Example; Being told to ship subquality products to meet quota., pitting team against team/shift against shift without recompence.)
A cost-saver incentive plan that I have heard about and would have loved to have been a part of is this. The idea submitted to the powers that be on a pre-formated form ("like" a patent). Upon review/ "cost evaluation" and implimentation of the idea this employee receives each fiscal quarter a check payable to him/her for ten percent of the savings from their idea each quarter as long as the idea is being used. This can be applied towards cost savings, medical cost reduction/safety, new technology/production innovation, and to the product itself. Giving the company increased savings, employee reward/recognition/"recompence", and feeds the incintive to do good for the company.

Very respectfully yours,
