Hi,

As a beginner with just the tutorial experience, I have started My work in V5.

I have just started converting one IGES surface data into Native CATIA V5 and modify it to the new shape later.

Here, I request the experts in field to guide me the best practices in this type of Legacy job.

I am interested to knew the best process for starting the above part. i.e

1. Shall I start with the Assembly adding the IGES part and New part. OR

2. Start creating the Native V5 in the same IGES part under a NEW BODY.

Suggessions are highly appreciated !

Thanks N Advance.

Please find the answer from well experience person.

" create a Product containing a new part (to be the native V5 data) and the Iges file (to "copy" from). If so one thing to be aware of is having your settings set to be linked to external objects. In this case make this turned off, as not to link to data that will be deleted or removed eventually. "

Hi,

Well, depends on what you are designing. Personally, I would create a new catpart (without inserting in a new catproduct, its not necessary) and copy (or open directly) the igs file in v5. Be careful at the settings (Tools-options-compatibility).

After that, I would create new features in v5 but depends on what is required (working with surfaces or something else).

In my opinion, depends on what you want and what is the designation of your part (if its a milled part, a sheet metal part or what ever).

I agree with deleting the external links.

Fernando
