Hi,
Just got proficient with SolidWorks and changed jobs and software again!
My Inventor questions are:
1> Is it ok to mate features in assembly, how about work planes or does it matter? I want to build robust models and it took a while to figure this out in SW.
2> Are there any other “best practices” I should be aware of moving from SW to Inventor?
3> Is Inventor talking about providing more surfacing tools?

Having used SW you might be doing a number of these practices but I would still recommned looking at this post on the AutoDesk NG. Scroll down to the post from Walt Jaquith. IMO it is one of the best posts on the NG. I think it addresses your first question.
