Hi, I'm looking to build a workstation for a wide range of Abaqus jobs, both standard and explicit, and I need help choosing the best processor. This is for our lab at my University. I don't want to go over 8 cores because we usually have trouble getting enough license tokens, but besides that I'm open to anything. I've been looking at getting two i7-4790k's because of their super-high clock speeds and ability to overclock (4.5+ ghz!). Does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to buy two processor with four cores each, instead of just one with eight (even though it would have a lower clockspeed). Would running two separate processors cause any kind of performance decrease? Any other processor recommendations?

Also, I'd like to hear what (newish) workstations you all have built, what they have (processor, hard drive, ram, etc.), and what you have found to be good and bad about them. Any recommendations for specific components that you have found to perform well would be helpful as well.

Thanks!
