What is the most efficient and low-cost method of sending/receiving a wireless signal inside a factory or building. The signal would be coming from a vibration sensor and turn on a LED light at a central location.

Thanks

One thing to consider in this wireless application is the EM noise in your environment. If the area is electrically noisy, lots of motors and cabling etc, it may be better to run a twisted pair between the two areas. The sencing of the closing and opening of a relay could do the trick in the wired system.
The other option is to purchase a wireless alarm system with enough range to meet your needs. This could cost a few bucks.
Hope this helps!

The other option would be Infra Red, again this depends upon the environment, is there dust etc present and you would need line of site between the two units (Send and receive). Will the alarm need a reset function, will there be more than one unit etc.

You could use a msp430xxxx microcontroller and a trf6900 transceiverat both ends. Go to the TI web site they have an application note for this application

You could also use a wit2410 transceiver and MSP430XXXX microcontroller. The advantage for your application would be the spread spectrum capability. This would
help with the noise in your enviroment
