BLAST LOAD FOR STRUCTURE

Hello Engineers,

I am working on a military building, and this building is required to tolerate blast, anyone knows which load combination should I use for Blast loading? are there any references which combine Blast load with other regular loads (Dead,live, Wind etc...)

Recommended for you

Generally I just consider Dead+Live (or Dead alone when considering uplift). The odds you are going to to get a Earthquake/Wind load at the instant you are going to have a blast load are right up there with hitting the lottery under most circumstances.
 
Blast load design has a wide range and can be complicated .... especially when it comes to dynamic calculations

Basically the requirements should be given in the specification
I dont know what country you are ..... but military usually have their own regulations

Hopefully someone gave you a combination of charge size and standoff or overpressure and positive phase duration

Look to your one-and-done load combinations. Generally I design for worst case resisting load (dead weight only), remembering that mass is your friend in a blast.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has great primer for blast including load damage levels. Look to UFC 3-340-02 UNIFIED FACILITIES CRITERIA (UFC) STRUCTURES TO RESIST THE EFFECTS OF ACCIDENTAL EXPLOSIONS. I think its available for public download.

Besides the UFC documents, AISC Design Guide 26 recommends 1.0D + 0.25L + 1.0Blast. The load combinations for extraordinary events in Section 2.5 of ASCE 7-10 could also be considered in the absence of any specific guidance.
 
Hire a specialist. They will do a dynamic analysis and save the client $$$ or you attempting an equivalent static analysis.
