Hello,

I am a beginner with Catia but quite experienced in other software (Rhino and others). I have modelled a plane wing using a nice loft going through several sections, so far all good. I've also played with Imagine and Shape to develop a nice body, still good.
My next step is to develop the blend between the body and the wing; what's the best way to do this?
The guys at t-splines (the equivalent of Imagine and Shape for rhino) have a nice video showing the process there (towards the end).
Regards,
RN

hey ferdo,

how is it like to work for airbus (or other aero companies) as a CAD designer or similar?
i've heard that you can get a part of the project under your control - in that case mentioned some door and then you can (or they said it was possible) spend next 10 years constantly reworking, recalculating... it as the project evolves.
is that just a horror story or does it have some base in reality? also if you know anything about similar positions with car manufacturers, would be nice too.

thanks.

Hi,

Not true. Starting with 2004, I've worked for almost all Airbus aircrafts family, migrating to CATIA v5 from old CAD systems or doing different tasks for new aircrafts in v4 or v5. Of course you can stay in a project few years but not doing same thing over and over...do you think market is allowing manufacturers to loose time in development?

I believe no, airliners wants their new aircrafts delivered in time and at a convenient price (old customized aircrafts or new concepts). Many times, manufacturers are paying penalties to airliners if they don't fulfill the contracts conditions.

To understand better the design process for an aircraft I suggest to read and if you want to see about Airbus again Wikipedia, even if is it a little bit old article - and just for info see also
I don't know about car manufacturers but I expect competition to be harder then in aerospace industry, so, as designer probably you are doing a lot in shorter time.

Fernando
