Is there an easy way replace certain blocks (fastener symbols) within a dwg with different blocks? Our procedure is to cut the section to another dwg and rename the blocks, then paste back into the original dwg.

thanks

You can do an INSERT = to replace your old blocks. Go into INSERT and type in OLDBLOCK=NEWBLOCK (where oldblock and newblock represent your old and new block names). Don’t forget to rename your old block to the new block name (in RENAME).

If you do a ddinsert, click on the file containing the new block and make sure that the two blocks have the same name, AutoCAD will ask if you want to redefine the block. Say yes and all of the existing blocks will also get changed to the new.
Imagineer

Thanks for the info. To be more specific, I want to change only some of the blocks on a dwg.

eg: There are 50 inserted blocks with the name "fire hydrant", colour red. I want to change 25 of them to trees.

I'm not sure I can give you a better procedure than what you have. I know of global replacement methods like above but if you are only replacing some...

PS. I'm sure the dogs will be happy that you are replacing fire hydrants with trees.
Imagineer
