I am modeling a 120 foot boat and am new to Microstation. Can anyone give me some tips about the best way to do the curves in 3d? I have a 2d AutoCAD drawing of the boat and need to translate that into a 3d model. Please help!

Go slow, the learning curve is high.

It's actually not that hard, but... You will use the Tools>Features>Extrude along a path among other things. If you have the lines drawings this will be a lot of fun.

Also, check the MicroStation Help for "smart solids."

Ive done this before using the plans from a Maratime Museum.
They plans were incredible for their age, and they provided a cross section. I plotted each cross section using a B-Spline Curve. Make sure you set your depths correctly (so that the curve remains 2d) and then set them a certain distance apart in the 3d environment (using the top view might be good), and then simply used the Construct Surface by Section tool (applying a smooting) and it came out great. Apply a wooden texture and away you go!

Ok my turn. I would take the sections and lay them out in 3D then you could skin solid.Tools>Surface Modeling, The Tool Bar Create Surface will show up. Then click on the first tool, Construct surface by section or network. This method would be perfect for hull design.
