Hello

I put body flanges between top head and shell .

In compress , this message shows to me:

" body flange is being counted as a line of support for external pressure "

Anybody explain to me this and how I fix it ?

Thanks ?

Seems correct to me...
Flange acts as stiffener.

What's to fix? A body flange should act as such.

And, why not a stiffener? The structure will act, the way you have detailed it. It knows no better and can’t read your mind as to your wishes. It is a concentrated (very localized) location where the flange is much stiffer than the surrounding shell or head, and it will influence its surrounding structure. It should be accounted for in your design and detailing, becuase the structure knows no better than to do the same.

AmbEng17, if by some chance you are designing to ASME Sec VIII, Div 1, see Fig UG-28.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
