Body Wall Thickness GATE VALVE

Hi all,

We have offered a 20" 300# Gate valve ( WCB Body). The valve body thickness in one of the body found to be in the range of 22.5 mm to 33 mm. Thickness 22.5 m observed in the area where the disc goes inside. It got rejected by TPI. As per API 600, the minimum wall thickness specified is 26.9 mm where as ASME B 16.34 code allows upto 21.0 mm.(whether it is applicable only along flow path area) When Purchase order referred only API 600, whether we are allowed to refer ASME B16.34. Pls clarify.

Seems quite clear to me. Purchaser asked for valves to API 600 so wants valves that meets that spec, not a different spec he didn't ask for....

You can always ask for a deviation and refer to 16.34 as part of your request, but unless you have good relations with the vendor then I wouldn't hold your breath.
