Howdy all,

I'm trying to find information on a Boeing color spec. Our customer is asking for BAC70180, but I can't find any reference to this. I've searched MyBoeingFleet for D14080 as suggested by a previous post, but could not find it. I did find D6-5000, but it does not have this color listed, and this listing does not provide a supliers part number. I'm not sure if our customer has made an error in the paint call out or if I'm just missing something. Could someone please guide me to a better understanding of Boeing paints?

Thanks,

-Kirby

That's a weird one. There is a D-17180 finish spec for the 707. BAC701 is gloss black. It's not a FED-STD-595 color.

You may need to ask your customer for clarification.

bf109g,

Yeah, I was trying to get some validation before I went to the customer. In our notes for this company it's indicated that they have been annoyed by have paint spec questions repeatedly asked. Which makes me think either they are completely clueless, or I have missed something that I should already know.

If they are working to Boeing specs, they will have to get used to it. ;-)

It is an America West "White" B70180 per D-14080.

If your customer has a problem with answering Customer Specific Color Codes questions, then they should have no problem when something is painted wrong. They should be providing you with the Aircraft Livery drawing showing the exact colors required.

See Attachment. (I know the colors don't scan properly, but it will give you an idea of what you are looking for)

rerig,

Great information. I give you a star!. Is there somewhere to find the D-14080 document? I have access to MyBoeingFleet, and searched for it under product standards, but could not locate it. Is the color chart cross-reference provided by the paint suppliers? I think this is what I need to be able to match up alternates.

The revision I have is "F" 1994.
Can remember where I got the Cross-reference chart.
Normally we would order the Top Coat by the B70180 from whom ever bought Crown Metro (Dexter Hysol) or their distributer.

I keep all of the old stuff because we occasionally get KC135 (707) parts. Some fine drawings those are!

rerig,

Thanks for a copy of the standard. I'm still a bit confused though. I was flipping through the standard and there are no 3 digit standard numbers. It mentions them on page X of the intro, but in the standard itself I can't find any. On your color chart from Crown Metro there were several. For example from the color chart it has the BAC spec number under each paint chip. I couln't find in the D-14080 B-733 (no 3 digit spec numbers) B-7067 (only goes up to B-70548 before jumping to the 8 series) B-7309 (The 7 series of paint colors starts at B-7609) nor could I find B-7025 (there is a B-70250, but no B-7025.) I feel like I'm missing something. It may just be you have an older version of D-14080 and most of the colors on the Crown Metro color chart are newer paint colors. Or I may have missed how the color specs are ordered in the boeing spec. There were a few 3 digit color specs at the very end where it just had something called 'Tristimulus values and Chromatiticity coordinates'. I couldn't even find B-707 grey which is fairly common.

You've helped me get a much better understanding of the Boeing color system rerig. I hate to pester you, but I want to be able to wrap my brain around this so it all makes sence. Yes I know, it's Boeing, it doesn't have to make sence.

Thanks for the great help you've provided rerig (and others).

The D-14080 is an old document for "as delivered" color codes.
The refinish codes should be in the OHM or CMM for the component. These code are similar to...F14.677 which is in the D6-5000 and is "one coat of BMS 10-60, type II gloss enamel, color BAC707 gray..."
You should be able to order the paint by spec & color.
The front of the D6-5000 & D2-5000 explain beter.
