I am designing a few sample conditioner for boiler steam drum CBD lines(Blowdown). All our boilers are at 4500 Kpag and blowdown line temperature is 260 C.

There will be a sample cooler before actual sampling.

How can I reduce the pressure of the sample so it does not create any hazard for person who takes sample?

IS it possible to use Needle valve (u/s or d/s) of the cooler ?

How can I avoid steam flashing at the same time reducing pressure ???

Thank you all in advance.

If you use 3/8" or smaller tubing with your needle valve (or small 1/4 turn valve) downstream of your sample cooler you should be fine. There shouldn't be much hazard to this installation. The choice of upstream or downstream seems obvious in my opinion- the valve should be downstream of the cooler.

hello,

see below thread 124-201797,

also "Dr. Thiedig" is recommended.

Cool he sample first then reduce the pressue. This especially true when dealing with superheated steam samples where any solids present will likely deposit on the pressure reducing device and eventually plug the device and result in false sample results.

The rod-in-tube valves are the simplest to maintain.

The two companies bimr recommended are the best in the business.

If you want to handle a sample, it has to be cooled to less than 100C or it will boil in the sample beaker.

If you grab a sample in an open beaker then walk around to a lab before you test the fluid in the beaker, then the fluid in the beaker will not be the same as the fluid in the pipe. The pH changes just because of temperature change. Contaminants or important fluid components may dissolve into or out of the sample just because of contact with the atmosphere. This happens even if you use a clean beaker and not just one found sitting on the counter.

InSitu analyzers give you an accurate, real-time, and continuous information stream about what is really happening in your system.
