Boiler Intake

I need information about boiler intake. If boiler intake is placed inside room/house and it is taking fresh air/oxygen from inside of house premises ( room ), are there any boiler and safety rules which are being violated? Is there any negative impact upon functioning and performance of boiler?

Think about it.

Air has be able to get into the boiler house as fast as the boilers extract it or there will be a negative pressure developed. This can make doors that open outward difficult to open at all, and very dangerous if one succeeds at it; one of my shift supervisors lost his left index finger this way, and air locks were subsequently installed on all exterior doors into that power plant.

Yes, there were fan rooms [fitted with steam to air heating coils] to balance the air pressure within the plant, but not enough of them to supply all the air needed for eight coal-fired units at 300 MW each. In the summer, loading bay doors were opened as needed, but this was not feasible in the dead of winter.

How well can you breathe if someone chokes off your windpipe?

Pls speak to your electrical engineer or process safety engineer in your plant - it all depends on the hazardous area classification (HAC) map for this boiler room. Combustion air for fired heater (including boilers) should only be taken from HAC "safe area".

Hi,
Probably good to check for codes and regulations in your country.
Also good to check with Safety bureau and or Fire brigade at your place.
My 2 cents

Here is guidance on boiler intake air requirements. Check all national, state and local codes for installation requirements.
