The Spanish regulation of boilers (RD 2060/2008 ITC EP-1) establishes that the boiler room must have reinforced concrete walls of 20 cm thickness. Doors can not exceed 1.2 x 2.1 m. The roof has to be of light material. The objective is to protect the people outside the room, in case of boiler explosion.

I would like to know what boiler room regulations are in the countries of my esteemed colleagues.

Note: I use boiler in the sense of steam generators and superheated water generators. The measures mentioned do not apply to small boilers, for example shell boilers with P x V <15000 bar.litre

I have worked at a facility with steam generators inside a containment vessel (5 ft thick walls since it was designed for nuclear containment). All the other plant I have worked at have boilers located outdoors (HRSGs at combined cycles, conventional boilers at a district energy plant, and coal and gas fired boilers at older power stations). None of them had any provisions in case of explosion.

In the USA, the boiler room has ventilation and egress requirements. Beyond these it is owner specific requirements.
