We are planning to purchase a new boiler to be used as a base load. We conducted the steam plant measurement to determine the existing capacity of the factory and we got 4028 kg/hr.How could we convert the load into Boiler Horse Power?
One key factor that you need in determining the HP of the boiler is the energy. You have specified the capacity in terms of kg/hr, but you also need to determine the enthalpy of the steam in terms of kJ/kg. Then you will know the amount of energy per unit time in kJ/hr. Conversions from kJ/hr into KWe, MWe, or HP can be found in many various texts and refernce books. If you have problems finding them, let me know and I will send them to you.
By definition -> 1 BHP produces 34.5 lbs/hr of steam from 100 deg C.
However, as 749KDV said you need more information. You need to know the enthalphy, so pressure and temperature as well. Once you know the output in mmbtu/hr you can use -> 33,475mmbtu/hr per BHP to get a more accurate conversion.
