Hello everyone,
I m working on a project where I need to validate the bolts for a flanged connection (pixture attached).
My calculation wasn't validated as I have contact both inside and outside the bolt circle and I was asked to take into account the reaction force (HR) resulting from that contact.

Do you have any idea how I can calculate this force?
I know that ASME APPENDIX Y is only for circular, bolted flanged connections.

Thank you

Elb.ab, treat is as round, under Apx Y if you must. See Apx 2-10.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Elb.ab first, if you are going to calculate thickness per UG-34 there is no need to perform Apx 2 calculations. You will have to confirm bolt area and account for the opening. See UG-39

Second, your flange OD "A" looks correct. Under Apx 2 C larger than A presents no computational problems, but I don't know if this is true under Apx Y,

Thank you again for your answer.

I see, I don't know if it makes sense under appendix Y.

The purpose of my calculation is to determine the forces on the bolts and for this I was asked to add the reaction force HR
