Is there a basis for looking at the net area due to bolt holes in a compression member? To compound matters, these are slip-critical bolts. The holes would be located a significant distance from the ends of the compression member.

Intuitively I would assume that any localized stress increase at the bolt hole location would not be a big concern for pure compression, particularly for a bearing connection. In my brief scanning of the ASD and LRFD manuals, as well as Salmon and Johnson, this seems to be the case. However, for a slip-critical connection I'm not so sure. Any advice would be greatly apprectiated. Thanks so much.
