What finish specification should be used for exterior application of ASTM A307, A325 and A490 structural bolts and ASTM A36 and A307 threaded rod? Zinc? Galvanized?

In what application would I specify ASTM A572, A588, A449 threaded fasteners or rods?

Thank you!

Your question really depends on the environment the bolts will be subjected to. In highly corrosive environments staniless steel bolts should be used, but in most outdoor applications hot dip galvanizing of the bolts is probably acceptable. Note: ASTM A490 bolts should not be galvanized according to AISC.

For anchor rods the most accepted standard is the ASTM F1554 rod. This can be specified in 36, 50, and I believe 70 ksi applications. It can be galvanized, and it has good ductility properties.
