What is the formula for bolt thread engagement?

-----------------------------------------------------------
I need to know if I have sufficent thread engagement when fastening together a .190" thick aluminum sheet to 16GA steel power strip chassis?

My Current Analysis is ...

screw length: .45"
material thickness: .190"
.45" - .190" = .260 thread engagement

I currently am going with a good rule of thumb, which is 1.5 * maj. dia. of screw (.185") = .2775 (.2775 - .260 = .0175 more thread engagement needed)

This was covered in a previous thread:

If your internal threads are steel, a good rule of thumb is ~ 1.0 * bolt nominal diameter. You may have adequate engagement.
