Hello all !
I'm a newbie using ANSYS Workbench and I've encountered some problems while trying to analyze a simple bolted connection : 2 slotted plates connected by a bolt. I've modeled the two plates and the bolt in DM; for the bolt I used boolean to unite a circular rod, the bolt head and the bolt nut. I assigned the next connections :
-between the bolt core and the plates holes - frictional behaviour with Augmented Lagranage with a friction coefficient of 0.3 ( without stiffnes update)
-between the bolt head and bolt nud and the plates surface - frictional behaviour with Augmented Lagranage with a friction coefficient of 0.3
-between the plates surface - frictionless behaviour
For meshing I've tried using advanced function for proximity and a multizone mesh for the bolt. The skewness seems to be fine, with some different elements in the hole area but I guess that's fine for the level of accuracy I'm trying to reach.
I've considered nonlinear behaviour for the materials. I've assigned fixed support for one of the exterior faces of the plate and a force(shear resistance of the bolt) at the other plate's end. I've considered multi step analysis (initial substeps 5; minimum substeps 2; maximum substeps 100) with large deflection on. I've checked connection information before analysis and all seems fine.
Running the analysis under these conditions I get a unconverged solution. I guess if I will try to use refinement for all the parts I'll have some convergence but I wouldn't bet the solution will be with exact results.
My questions are :
- should I use other contact type for the bolt and the plates ?
- what kind of mesh should I use for the parts ?
- should I use contact sizing ?
- should I consider increasing substep number ?
