Hi,

Is there a proven standard solution for placing a bolted steel silo over concrete columns, considering seismic?

I was asked to evaluate an alternative to the steel braced frames, with rc columns, so seismic is reduced (replacing steel braced frames with rc moment frames, or possibly cantilever columns, decreasing stiffness and hence seismic forces).

What are some considerations or guidelines you can provide on the issue of cantilever columns? regarding detailing and design procedures.

It's a small cement silo, 150 ton.

Thanks to all, regards.

I think you need to double check the code to assure concrete moment frame has advantages over steel braced frame.

Yes..you can evaluate steel braced frames vs rc moment frames.. What are the applicable loading standard and design codes?

What are the dimensions of silo and supporting structure?
