Is it possible to export a Bill of Materials to a tab delimited text file for improting into Excel?

All you should have to do:

Right Click on the BOM in the drawing.

Select 'Save As'

Under 'Save as Type', select Excel (.xls)

This should save your BOM directly as an Excel file.
