In the Uk it is a requirement to bond the lighning system to the main earth terminal of the electrical installation. I cannot see any worthwhile reason for this. Any comments?

Attempting equal relative potential at all points of the facility.

Note in a US electrical code book with reference to lightning-protection and premises-wiring systems: Bonding together of all separate grounding electrodes will limit potential differences between them and between their associated wiring systems.

Suggestion: It depends on the object distance protected by the lightning air terminals. If the lightning system is far, then it is not much effective to connect the lightning to some distant electrical grounding system. The Fall of Potential Method might be used to establish the necessity of bonding to the electrical grounding system.
