We are currently working on several pipeline projects and we are experiencing a extremely high soil resistivity at the pump stations. A consulting company is recommending us to bond the grounding system to Building piles and nearby pipelines. But we are hesitating to do so. Because we have the following concerns,

First of all, bonding to pilings may damage the rebars through the lightening. Secondly, bonding to pipelines may damage the cathodic protection for anti corrosion of pipelines.

Can I get some valuable opinions regarding the above issues? Thanks in advance.

Bonding to a cathodically protected pipeline will drain off the cathodic impressed current and defeat the protection.

Glendale and Jghrist,

Thanks for the replies,

According to ISP catlogue, ISP can provide a low resistance for AC current and block DC current. This means, it won't defeat the protection. I am not quite sure it is reliable or not.
