Bonding wood to steel

Hi guys

I would like to bond a wood nailing plate to a steel bearer so I can support wood joists. Does anyone know a good adhesive to use and a specification for using it.

I've not used glue for this purpose, but, check into Bulldog PL Premium adhesive; I've used it to secure metal plate stiffeners to floor joists/beams.

I typically use small bolts to secure wood nailers to steel beams, or alternatively use powder actuated fasteners...

I have used "Liquid Nails" for very small applications such as this. Works well. You will NEVER get them apart w/o wrecking some wood or steel.

But - I can't "justify" or quantify it. Maybe google some of the mfgs and find out if you can get some "numbers". I do know that creep could possibly be a long term problem...

If this is a drag link, you will never be able to quantify the connection. You would have to use a Nelson Sill Plate Anchor (welded threaded rod with nut and washer), Hilti as mentioned, or something similar.

kf...I'd probably go with a mechanical connection. Adhesives and their application can be a bit fickle.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have specified bolts to fix the nailing plate to the bearer. When I was discussing with the builder on-site they (the builder) brought up the possibility of gluing the wood to the steel which is the reason I posted question here.

All adhesive connections used in construction are justified under statistical testing for the exact conditions that they are manufactured. Otherwise they are highly variable for different conditions.
