Book for AutoCAD beginner 1

I have been given the task of updating some wiring diagrams in AutoCAD. I never used AutoCAD before. I have managed to copy and paste and move lines and symbols around, but I need recommendations for an introductory book about AutoCAD. I browsed the AutoCAD section at a local bookstore, but the books they had seemed to be geared toward architectural or mechanical drawings, rather than electrical. I need something to show me how to place this line or that resistor symbol exactly where I want it and how to create and save a new symbol, etc.
The version of AutoCAD that we have at work is AutoCAD 2006.

Hi

You should have got a manual supplied with software. Cad is such a huge package it can seem a bit daunting but as you just seem to want to know a few basics there is always the help menu or there are quite a few tutorials on the net. Cad tutor being one.

Regardless of the type of industry you are in (arch/elect/mech) autocad still functions the same way. You just draw different shapes.
Any Autocad book should easily be able to get you the knowledge you need.

Just find any beginners autocad book.. What you need is typically covered in the first chapter of all the beginner autocad books.

Don't convince yourself that its a tough program to use. Autocad is very basic. Its all based off placing geometry based on X,Y locations.

Like for example if you want a horizontal line 1" long going from 0,0 you would simply type "L" then hit enter to being placing the line. Then just tell it the first position which is 0,0 and the end of the line at 1,0

There are even tutorials that come with the program that should be more than enough to get you working. Or even youtube has tutorials floating around.

Frey Autocad 2006 no experience required

is excellent for beginners. You can even design your holiday home with it!

Thanks testrun for the link you just gave. I just startes using Autocad 2006 and I have never ever used any Software to draw. This was most helpful.
