bore sizes, ANSI B16.34 vs. API 6D

Can anyone offer any insight into the differences between valve bore sizes per pressure class between ANSI B16.34 and API 6D? (as shown in the attached .txt file)

For example, notice that an 8" CL900 is shown as 7.50" in B16.34 but is shown as 8.00" in 6D. (I've always used B16.34 in the past.)

B16.34 ports are non-mandatory suggestions and are used in several industries. these ports roughly correspond with common pipe schedules that would be with the valve.

API 6D are mandatory requirements for a specific industry (oil/gas) and a specific service in that industry. So they are designed with that in mind

Oh yeah . . . that makes sense.

I guess when you see an 8" CL900 API valve connected to Sch80 or XX pipe, it is assumed that the user knows he has a stepdown there.
