Seems like I recall seeing a requirement that bottom seams in a flat-bottom tank were supposed to cross the shell at approximately right angles (ie, can't run a seam tangentially right near the shell). But, looking for this requirement in API-650, I can't find it anywhere. Anyone remember seeing this?

JStephen,
I don't have my 650 handy right now...but I thought there was a figure that showed weld spacing both in the floor and shell. I thought that on that figure it gave guidelines on the angle between the shell and the lap weld seams. I will check my book on monday..

API-650 does not address spacing between vertical seams and bottom lap seam. Nor does it limit the angle intersection of them. There is a 12" spacing requirement for three-plate laps from the shell (and each other).
