We are looking for a Brass alloy that we can stamp into very small forms ( .005 thick < 1/2" long ) and process to a very high smooth luster for future electroless nickel plating.
We are the stamping house and trying to help our customer.

Currently they have specified and we have used Cartridge Brass, C26000 which is 70% Copper and 30% Zinc. After cleaning and polishing, the surface appears to have an orange peel look.

Any suggestions ?

Brass tarnishes very quickly. Brass polish contains abrasives and wax to prevent tarnish. Wax would not be helpful for plating.

How are you currently polishing, and what temper does the material have? Cartridge brass should take a clean, high polish.

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

The orange peel look may come during your stamping operation , if the metal is stretched it may show an orange peel effect.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.
