Brazing qualification

We had brazed some production joints in the Instrument air system before we realised that our personnel have to be qualified as per Sec IX. Subsequently, we qualified our brazers and continued our production. We performed a pneumatic test as per B31.1 and the system passed the leak test at about 182 psig. My client does not accept the leak test performed and insists that destructive testing needs to be carried out on the first braze joint of each brazer prior to his performance qualification.

Is there any provision in either of the codes to accept the subject system as is?

No, not really. A nonconformance was identified and your client requested a fair resolution. Frankly, I would agree with this approach of testing only the first production braze joint of each brazer. If nothing is found, you are only left to redo these test joints. If the first braze joints are found to be defective, I would expect you will need to expand the inspection and it would be a good catch on your clients part.

what does the buyer's PO/Spec specify for pre-qualification or specifically on brazer qualification/testing or joint testing?

if it is not specified then you have every right to claim an extra for this added time/material/manpower.
