I posted this in the wrong spot earlier:
I would like to break into the power industry and don't know exactly how to go about it. I have BSEE and MSEE but no experience in the field and some dated experience (out side of the US) in maintenance and repair of electric/electronic equipment. I continously seek knowledge and have recently obtained a power system certificate but seem to get no response when applying for utility and related jobs. Suggestions are appreciated for where to find a starter job when I am not a recent graduate and have no experience. Areas of interest include substation engineering (automation & Integration, upgrades, grounding, etc.), protective relaying, distribution and transmission projects (analysis, design), Energy Management Systems and renewable energy.
Thanks.

I would look for OEM's of the types of equipment that you list. They may be able to use what skills you have and teach you about their specific systems and their applications.

From there you can approach the rest of the industry with that OEM experience as a lead in.

Go to Houston, there are many shops that do packaged electrical equipment and it is a good place to grow and learn, also about the cheapest place to live in the US.
You need a local address to get hired at your level.
