Hi

Due to various reasons I need to weld a 12mm bright round bar to a 304 Stainless Steel material. The bright bar has to be in the same Asme IX grouping as a A106 material.

Main reason for this is because I have WPS,PQR and WELDERS QUALIFICATION for this type of material welding combination.(304 Stainless Steel to A106)

In summary I now need to know the following: With what material can I replace the 12mm round bar that would blend in with the above.

Thank you in advance.

Is this request real?

If it is here you go; obtain a piece of P-No 1, carbon steel bar, send out for chrome plating. Have one end of the bar prepped to weld to the 304 stainless steel using your DMW procedure. Now you have a bright (shiny) bar.

Or else, qualify a new welding procedure for stainless steel to stainless steel.

Basically any material falling into group P1 acc ASME IX. Check your design code/ASME IX to see what falls into group P1.
Look for ASTM specs on bar. For B31.3 work, a P1 group for bar may be to ASTM A36. Make sure to check weldability, filler metal selection, etc.
Whats the design temperature, min and max? If its beyond 800F, check e.g. this thread.
