Hi All,
Just wanted to publicly thank Metengr for putting this up and highlight this information that otherwise might be buried. This is significant technical info, far more than research curiosity - published 2008
[scroll down to the bottom of this link to view paper]
This would be significant background knowledge for those involved in heat treatment on a daily basis.
It's a brilliant summary of the martensite formation mechanism that does not reflect a lot of text books and the concomitant knowledge taught when I went through uni - I was working for our local steel producer at the time so we had to understand the theory perfectly as you never knew where you'd end up.
This makes sense (now) to a former research metallurgist/senior engineer (other fields not hardening)
Thanks to all for the assistance on the site and your help. A brilliant resource and source of information
