brushless motor overheat problem

Hi, we have a small brushless DC motor (~200 W rating) driven by a drive we built ourself. We decided to build our own drive because we have a limited space application. The only way to fit the drive in our system was to design one with our dimension restrictions.

We have started to run our motor without load and we are experiencing some heat problems of the stator. Anyone has clue on what could cause this overheat problem?

Marc,
send more details about your drive (PWM frequency, type of commmutation,etc) and motor (phase-to-phase inductance, etc). Have you a opportunity to plot of phase current?
 
Hi, thank you for your reply. By the time I sent you my request, our technician had came to the conclusion that the heat was cause by normal hysteresis lost of the motor and that heat generated was not appropriately transfert into the housing of the motor.

You may check if your technician was right by testing of another motor. But I don't think that is motor manufacturer's problem.
