Good Day!
For bridge experts there, I just have a question about the provision in BS 5400-4, 6.3.2.4.
It is said in the code, 4.2.2, that cracking in prestressed concrete for each class should be considered for the appropriate load combination. For example, for class 1 member, load combination 1 should be used wherein the type HB to be used should only be 25 units. In 6.3.2.4, it is said there that for joints in post-tensioned segmental construction, refer to 7.3.3. And in 7.3.3, for resin mortar joints, the flexural stresses in the joint should be compressive throughout under service loads. Meaning there should be no tension. I just want to know what load combinations should I use for tensile stress checking in these joints. It is not clearly stated there what load combinations are to be used for these joints. Should I consider it as Class 1 member and use load combination 1 with 25 units of HB only? or should I check for all load combinations with appropriate units of HB (the one that is written in our design criteria, 45 units in our case).
I hope someone can answer this.
Thank you very much!
