hi guys

does anyone know the correct heat treatment for a carbon material BS3100 BW2?

At the moment we are carrying out 2 heat treatments

920 c 2 hours air cool then
620 c 4 hours furnace cool

the problem is that half of the cast batch is rejected at machining because the blades of the impellers are too hard.

hardness test carried out on the blades showed a value of 250 HB on the rejected parts.

can anyone help please?

Too hard? According to BS3100 standard the Grade BW2 castings are supplied as abrasion resistant low alloy steel castings, and as such are specified to range in hardness from 201-255 BHN.
