If the blade is not cutting through steel, then it almost certainly needs to be replaced. These blades cannot be sharpened, as they use cubic boron nitride on along the periphery as the cutting material. Buehler should have a local account representative in your area that should be able to provide you with assistance including a new manual.

You probably want to be careful about using higher cutting speeds and/or higher forces to prepare your weld coupons. It's also a good idea to make sure the blade is not dull. You can easily produce enough heating and quenching at the cut line to affect the metallurgy of the coupon.

It could very well be that the saw is cutting at its design rate. These saws are very low power and intended to make very smooth cuts that require very little additional polishing after cutting. Polishing is extremely time consuming, so a smooth cut to start with is essential. 20 minutes to cut through a tough specimen would not be unreasonable. An operator does not have to monitor the cutting. Other tools are used for fast, rough cuts. The saw is designed for cutting specimen for microscopic examination.
