Murder hornet's nest tracked...

Entomologists were able to attach radio trackers to three of the hornets, one of which led them to the nest, it said.

Hopefully such lifeforms never figure out that taking a tracking device home is a bad idea...

It was just a short article... but the most interesting part, to me, was the tracking technology... nothing in the article about it... RFI chip and crazy glue? who knows.

Not sure what it was, but they use monofilament to "tie" it around the waist of the insect. This was at least the third one they'd put the tracker on. The first one died before lift-off. The second one tracked long enough to get lost in a thicket. It's really an outstanding success; huge trauma to the hornet just to get caught and tagged, got to nurse them back to life before they can be set free to lead the death squad back to the hive.

david... glad they got the hive... hope it's the only one (not likely)... these apparently are real nasty critters...

Here's one article about it: They seem to be pretty nasty looking, in general.

Some more details about the transmitter: but they apparently used a commercial product, possibly this one:
