Hi,
Could anybody will guide me that, if i want to build (Duplicating)any PV or H/E as per old code, i.e 1990!
Can i use existing Calculations and dwgs. of 1990, to build according to 2004 Edition 06 Add?
I will not responsible for any design Input for this vessel or H/E, so can i use Dwgs. & Calculations, which i used in 1990 or will i have to do or comply with 04ed06add?
Pls. guide me about requirements of Code Edition & Addenda.
Thanks in advance

no, the pressure vessel code that is required on the the day of the issuance of purchase order.

04 add 06 is no longer valid. New one is 07

The fabricator will still be responsible for the calculations. You could use old design drawings and calculations but you must identify that you have reviewed the design and it complies with the current code.

I want to make sure I understand;
1) You are re-producing an existing PV/HX for a plant.
2) You are using this PV/HX to replace the one in the plant.

If so, then you may use the Code Edition of original construction.

If this is for a new application in the plant but a copy of that PV/HX wants to be used then you must be compliant with the current edition of the Code. This may require a reconciliation only to state that the 1990 design is still compliant or it may require a full re-design.

Good Luck.

Hi,
Thanks for quick response with detail clarification.
But still i have to know, that, from where, i can find in the Code, which states that this is mandatory to reviewed the design and it complies with the current code!

Also Mr. GrimesFrank,
could you also pls. give me more clarification about you said:

BPVN,

What is your jurisdiction? What are your jurisdiction's requirements for new vessels?

If PV/HE is within ASME VIII-1 Scope, read the middle of page two in the Foreword of VIII-1. Look for the following words:

Revisions, except for revisions to material specifications in Section II, Parts A and B, become mandatory six months after such date of issuance, except for boilers or pressure vessels contracted for prior to the end of the six-month period.

You did not state which Code applies to your PV/HE or even the jurisdiction. Your best bet is to ask your jurisdictional representative. They are there to help.

BPVN,
Jackal has given you the text requirement you have about when you must be compliant for new construction.

My point was that the owner may specify an exact substitute for something that is currently in service in their plant.

I see this scenario as unlikely for PV(s) and HX shells but you never know. In any case, under my jurisdiction you may build to the edition of original construction if it is to replace the exisiting component and it is still being subjected to all the originally specified loadings.

This is more applicable to components that are subject to replacement during plant life.
